Stanley claims to have 725 members of the Mutual Defense Pact that have agreed 
to aid in a standoff for any members throughout the country, if attacked by law 
enforcement officials, acting under the color of law.  

By Michael Cacioppo - DENVER – An armed standoff is expected soon in Denver 
because of the unconstitutional rulings of two front-range judges against Rick 
Stanley, the former Libertarian candidate for U. S. Senate, who committed the 
state and federal constitutional acts of openly carrying a handgun on his waist 
in Denver in 2001 and in Thornton in 2002. Municipal and County Judge Robert 
Patterson of Denver recently sentenced Stanley to 30 days house arrest and one 
year probation, while Municipal Judge Charles Rose of Thornton recently 
sentenced Stanley to 90 days in jail. Stanley, who now heads the Mutual Defense 
Pact, has told Speakout! that he would not serve time for the wrongful 
convictions and that if challenged by law enforcement, he would defend himself. 

Stanley claims to have 725 members of the Mutual Defense Pact that have agreed 
to aid in a standoff for any members throughout the country, if attacked by law 
enforcement officials, acting under the color of law. Stanley reports through 
the internet that the Pact has headed off three wrongful government attempts 
against members, the most recent, in Charlevoix County, Michigan, where he says 
a judge ruled that a member, Lyle Barkeley, was wrongfully ordered to remove 
mobile homes from his country property. Stanley says he put the Pact on alert, 
and when law enforcement discovered there would be an armed standoff, they 
backed down from enforcing the court order. 

Stanley now reports that Charlevoix County citizens held a town meeting last 
night and decided to recall the government officials who were responsible for 
the mobile home decision. “It’s time,” Stanley told Speakout! “It’s time for 
American citizens to stand up and demand that government at all levels and all 
branches stay within the boundaries of the constitution. The supreme law of the 
land must be enforced, not the unconstitutional ordinances, statutes and 
legislative laws that are less than the supreme law of the land. Local 
government officials seem to feel that they can violate the supreme law of the 
land whenever they wish, with impunity.” “We are serving notice,” Stanley 
continued, “NOT ON OUR WATCH!” 

Speakout! has monitored the Stanley situation and recently asked Governor Bill 
Owens to pardon Mr. Stanley for the wrongful convictions. Speakout!! has yet to 
hear the Governors response. The request was made last week when the Governor 
attended a Republican meeting in Vail.
