Google.com Is Anti-Gun....Posted on Saturday, September 27, 2003 @
03:42 PM by 007
From Valley Firearms in Shelton, CT
You are getting this straight from the horses mouth. Google.com is anti
gun! I enrolled in their advertising program recently. The way it works
is this, you set up an account as a Google advertiser, it is called
Adwords. You pick out keywords, which when a Google user searches one of
those keywords, my link to www.valleyfirearms.com shows up on the right
side of the browser. Of course this service is not free, I have to pay
for every click thru that Google provides me with.
I set up an account, I used Google's keyword tool to come up with gun
related keywords to add to my list. Keep in mind, most of my keywords
were words the Google's own tools had suggested. Of course, because I am
advertising a gun store, all my keywords were gun related. Below is the
email Google sent me. The have disallowed ALL of my keywords because
they are firearm related.
This is what they stated
"Content: At this time, Google policy does not permit the advertisement
of websites that contain "firearms and ammunition". As noted in our
advertising terms and conditions, we reserve the right to exercise
editorial discretion when it comes to the advertising we accept on our
site." The entire email is below.
I STRONGLY suggest gun owners and supporters pass this information along
to their friends, email google at adwords-support@google.com, and look
for another search engine to use. They are being copied on this email.
Please continue to scroll down and read the entire email they sent me.
Thanks, Rick
Here is the complete email they sent me; Thank you for advertising with
Google AdWords. After reviewing your account, I have found that one or
more of your ads or keywords does not meet our guidelines. The results
are outlined in the report below.

cant disregard your experience, BUT....
Added by dnyd on Saturday, September 27, 2003 @ 04:04 PM I use google as
my home page and search engine almost exclusively. I found packing.org
using it. My list of gun related links is -by far- the largest in my
favorites file. I have been able to find and research everything I have
been able to think of using google as a start point. I have spent
thousands buying accessories and parts from internet vendors. (Its still
cheaper to buy guns at my local retailer due to the shipping
restrictions and silly fees.)
I still think you are likely better served to stay with google, simple
because most people use it. Your goal is to make money, or you wouldnt
be in the retail business. The best way to fly the finger of contempt in
their misguided faces is to make a lot of money off them. I shake my
head at those who refuse to deal with narrow minded people they could
otherwise take advantage of, simply on the basis of their politics. Dont
crawl in a hole. make them your B&%ch! Its better to be sneaky than
poor.

I Do Not Doubt You But...............
Added by JSG on Saturday, September 27, 2003 @ 04:14 PM I use Google all
the time to find gun and ammunition related sites. As a matter of fact
before I posted this I entered "gun" and got thousands of hits. I also
did the same with "ammunition" with the same result. I'm certain the
folks that run this site are "antis" but when it comes to making money
some "antis" can conveniently forget how they feel and probably get some
sort of perverted joy from making money off of pro 2A folks. Comment on:

..but not content
Added by alien-GlockMaster on Saturday, September 27, 2003 @ 04:22 PM
They may ban ads, but as the other posts have said content and web sites
are not prohibited. If you have a web page then you will be found. Is
the desirable NO! and we should voice our opinion LOUDLY. This the same
as what has happened in the print media. Comment on: this thread or this

What 007 is talking about
Added by LotsaGlocks on Saturday, September 27, 2003 @ 04:29 PM What 007
is talking about is pay per click using AdWords. If you put any non gun
related word in on Google you will see little boxes on the right. They
are advertisers that are paying to be on the first and second page. It
takes a long long time and a lot of hits before you make it to the first
5-10 pages of the regular Google search engine if you ever make it at
all. This is a big deal!

brought up the Federal Premium ad in their Sponsored Links side (the
only ad in their sponsored links side). It seems that only big companies
get to advertise "bad things" with Google. Robert

Hypocrisy
Added by jmaclaur on Sunday, September 28, 2003 @ 12:18 AM That's pretty
ludicrous that Google refuses to do AdWords for guns and knives. Here
are some searches that I found AdWords directly supporting:
* dildo
* marijuana seeds (you can buy them online referred through google
AdWords!!!)
* sado-masochism (because selling videos of faked rape is better than
folding knives and bullets!)
* shuriken (ninja throwing stars)
* scissors (aren't those just two knives screwed together, be consistent
google!)
That kinda makes me mad...

the solution
Added by spetiam on Sunday, September 28, 2003 @ 02:48 PM i have to
agree with the previous posts that google is the best search engine
however, their ad policy is quite offensive the solution? block all
google ads using the following method: download and install a real web
browser
add this text to your "userContent.css" file restart your browser
voila, no more google ads
get adblock to block other ads not blocked by the list NOTE: everything
above is open source and free Comment on: this thread or this comment
Real Browsers
Added by djl4570 on Monday, September 29, 2003 @ 02:11 AM Didn't have to
download a real browser. Nice to see someone else running one.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20030926
Firebird/0.7+ The builtin popup blocker in Mozilla and Firebird is worth
the effort in installing and using this product. Back to the original
thread: I ran a search on Google for +guns and +ammunition and got over
500,000 hits. Their policy is silly. Guess I'm heading back to
altavista.

YES- Google is anti-gun
Added by Unified on Sunday, September 28, 2003 @ 04:15 PM Dear VF, We
reported about Google anti-gun policies back in 2001. If you would like
to advertise with us, you will get guaranteed listings in Google and
other major search engines, besides being viewed by all our Members and
over 500 new people every day. GUNED even lists before Smith and Wesson
on a Google search! Yes Google is anti-gun, but you can get the highest
listings possible without giving them a dime. Please email me for my
phone number, or email me to get GUNED advertising prices. Screw Google
and support one of the strongest Pro 2nd groups around. There is one
more thing- I noticed you are using AOL. This goes against everything
you are trying to accomplish. AOL is 1000 times worse than Google. We
can help you in that department also! Mike W. Smith

Google Anti-Gun Pro ?
Added by shooter223 on Monday, September 29, 2003 @ 08:39 PM OK
Everyone, I've read this thread and think its time for us to show our
power. Get yourself listed in google, but not as a paying advertiser,
and the shooting community should be happy to click you to page one on
google. If 100 of us hit him 10-20 times each a day, he should be page
one in what a couple of months. If 1000 of us click his site 30 times a
day .....If 2000/50times a day.... Gunowners online trashed Rosies'
survey in 24 hours. 60 million gunowners with only 4 million in the NRA
and congress is scared of us. BTW if 10% of that 4 million ever called
or wrote their reps in their lives I'd be shocked. shooter223 Comment

Legislation
Added by Hamp on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 @ 01:23 PM More and more
U.S. companies will restrict Citizen's right to keep and bear Arms as
long as Congress keeps enacting gun control legislation. Citizens need
to work toward getting illegal unconstitutional legislation repealed.
Congress is the only government entity that can repeal federal
legislation. Congress will not repeal unconstitutional legislation as
long as Citizens keep on reelecting the criminals that enact that
illegal unconstitutional legislation
