Rick Stanley wrongly arrested by Denver cops, immediately released

By Michael Cacioppo

DENVER - Former Libertarian U. S. Senate candidate Rick Stanley was wrongly arrested last month in Denver for carrying a pistol on his side, Speakout! learned recently. Stanley, who was wrongly convicted both in Denver and Thornton last year for committing similar constitutional acts, is waiting to be wrongfully jailed, pending a likely unsuccessful appeal in the higher courts. Stanley’s show-no-fear-attitude and stick-it-in-their-face grittiness, showed again, when he appeared in May and June, on the corner outside the Colorado Supreme Court building, while continuously wearing his gun on his side. Apparently, somebody forgot to tell the Denver police that the Colorado legislature passed a bill taking away any power of the City and County of Denver in regards to arresting people for committing the constitutional act of openly carrying a weapon. Stanley said he was released immediately after a Denver prosecutor told the Denver Police they had erred. Amazingly, Denver is now honoring the state constitution, but only after the legislature passed a law. Why Denver would choose to honor the constitution now, when they have continuously failed to do so in the past, is anybody’s guess. Meanwhile, Stanley continues to picket in front of the Supreme Court and other locations weekly, letting the public know they have a right to openly carry a gun in Colorado, no matter what any home-rule city declares.
