(DENVER CO) Stanley Unhappy with Allard’s Support for Rocketing Spending on Misguided Missiles

In a recent statement, Senator Wayne Allard (R-CO) was cheering moves to make our taxpayer-funded budget larger, contrary to his own party’s professed policy of making government smaller. Allard has now advised Americans -- and Washington, DC’s politicians -- to get behind a multi-billion dollar budget increase for a missile defense program.

While Libertarian U.S. Senate Candidate Rick Stanley fully supports a strong national defense, he is not happy with Sen. Allard’s enthusiasm for rocketing defense spending and misguided missile expenses, which will serve only to blow away Americans' hard-earned money. Here is Mr. Stanley's statement, which was read to the crowd attending an end-of-summer picnic on Sunday afternoon in El Paso County.

"Senator Allard recently stated that it is 'ill-advised to tie the president’s hands in moving forward with missile defense programs.' He warns that we don’t have the capability to intercept an intermediate or long-range missile. He says that if we are ever going to get serious about defending this country, then what we must have in place is a missile defense program. Senator Allard is also trying to make the people of Colorado think that failure to support this plan would have a negative long-term financial effect on Colorado military bases. That's pure garbage.

"Has Mr. Allard noticed where the United States is positioned on the globe? We do not need a missile defense program to protect us from Canada or Mexico. We do not need a long-range missile defense program, either. Our current missile force has been an adequate defense for 56 years. There are no rogue nations capable of delivering a nuclear weapon by missile to the United States. Even if they could, we have made it clear that we can and will destroy their country in retaliation. That is why deterrence works.

"A missile defense program will not protect us from terrorists, who could smuggle in a nuclear bomb by truck, boat, or air transportation. Why should we enrich the Republicans' good old boy network of arms manufacturers at the expense of an already tax-burdened citizenry? Why are all of the President’s advisors so high on this idea? Which arms manufacturers are these advisors -- and, it appears, Senator Allard -- pandering to? If our foreign policy had a hands-off approach towards other countries, who would be stupid enough to attack the mightiest nation on Earth? When are the Republicans and Democrats going to get it, and stop ripping off the American people by making them pay for another under-the-table scam on us, the taxpayers?

"When can the American people expect a Congress, a Senate and a President to honor their oath of office to protect the Constitution and the interests of the American people? When will our elected public servants stop pandering to special interest groups? I’ll tell you when -- on the very first day that Libertarians control Congress, the Senate and the President’s Oval Office.

"The American people need to join us in starting the Second American Revolution to throw out all the federal level scumbags who support the pillage of our rights and our wallets. This revolution will be fought with ballots, not bullets. Vote these traitors to the American ideals of truth, justice, prosperity, limited government and personal responsibility out of office. Start this process by voting for Rick Stanley for the U.S. Senate. My election will ignite the Second American Revolution, and it will energize the American people to stand up and take our government back."
