Stanley Calls for a Denver Police Grand Jury Investigation

(DENVER CO) I called out for a grand jury investigation of the Denver Police Department on December 21, 2001 because the police are murdering our citizens with a license to kill from Mayor Webb. We have another funeral in Denver for an 18 year old East High School graduate who was murdered by Denver police this past week. Investigators have said that Gregory L. Smith, Jr. came at police with a knife and ignored orders to drop the weapon. Smith's 19 year old sister, who was standing a few feet away, acknowledged that her brother was holding a pocketknife, but said he was standing still with the blade straight in the air. She said police gave no warning before firing.

With the history of deceit and cover up in the Denver Police Department, I am inclined to believe Smith's 19 year old sister.

The indictment of the Denver Police and the administration headed by Denver Mayor Wellington Webb is only too apparent.

Once again, I am saying that the Denver Police Department must be investigated by a state grand jury. The latest Smith case is just one in a lengthening series of clear cut murders committed by Denver police. A policeman's badge must be a badge of honor, not a license to kill the people cops have sworn to serve and protect."
