Folks,
This initiative in Arizona should be taking place in every state that
has the *initiative* option.
It is insane that certain cities have declared themselves to be HAVENS
FOR ILLEGALS.
This is a return to the HOLE IN THE WALL where the Criminals of the old
west felt safe from being arrested. The elected officials of those
cities who have declared themselves HAVENS FOR ILLEGALS should all be
prosecuted as aiding and abetting enemy agents in a time of war.
If Californians can recall Davis then anything is possible if people
really want to do it. But, folks have to get off their obese butts and
actually do something beside click the remote to change channels and hit
redial to order another pizza.
Close the Borders - Deport the criminals who are here posing as poor
people seeking a better life.
Then - export all those bleeding hearts who want to destroy America by
protecting ILLEGAL INVADERS. Send them to Mexico to do their dirty work
of protecting ILLEGALS into Mexico.

Comment: Now that the first salvos have been read in various opinion
articles on this topic, it is time for analysis. John Semmens in the
7/11 Tribune opines that it is Arizona's welfare program itself that is
the problem but that we should "go forward with it". The Tribune
editorial of the day before doubts the effectiveness of the measure and
suggests a "guest worker program". One has to wonder how the Feds
could
manage this as they have not been able to secure our borders to date and
we now have in excess of ten million illegals! Efforts towards a guest
worker program have been resisted by Latinos because of the return
provision and its just easier to violate the borders with rare returns.
Mary Reinhart, in the same paper on the 12th,
believes that the idealistic "The New Colossus"
inscription on the Statue of Liberty by Emma Lazerus ("Give me your
tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free...")
written in a different era and circumstances should be the same basis

It is ludicrous to compare unknown numbers of sneaky, illegal border
crossers who violate specific laws to an orderly, limited migration who
were processed upon landing at Ellis Island and broke no laws and were
checked for disease and whose identities and other personal information
was listed on the ship's manifest and turned over to immigration
authorities upon landing.

An idealistic poem, written by a
wealthy elitist, was not the unrestricted basis for immigration policy

But the most devious opinion was by Ricardo Pimentel on 7/13 who
minimizes and distorts the problem at hand and considers this needed and
popular action "a waste of time", while posing as a spokesperson for
the
public and as concerned for "our wacky image" while everyone who has
read any of his myopic columns knows that his unrelenting interest is to
promote and justify every condition and benefit for Latinos and/or
illegals regardless of America's best interests.
Writers such as Pimentel and Raoul Contrearas openly display why we must
limit immigration to reasonable, controlled numbers as many Latinos have
such a difficult time assimilating in contrast to many others such as
Michelle Malkin, the daughter of legal immigrants, who supports
America's best interests in her many writings including, "Coming to
America -- Anarchy on our Borders".

While the war against Iraq is winding down, many serious problems facing
California and this country remain unresolved. Our federal budget
deficit is at a record high. Most states, especially California, are
facing their most severe budgetary crises in decades, as schools and
jails overflow. Large numbers of workers continue to lose their jobs
every day.
These stark facts ought to give our politicians the courage to advocate
an immigration policy that would immediately reduce the number of social
service users and save jobs for all legal residents. Yet instead of
supporting HR 946, which would reduce legal immigration from 1 million a
year on the average to 300,000, and taking immediate steps to seriously
control our borders and deport illegal immigrants, President Bush and
many in Congress favor amnesties for illegal immigrants!
Oblivious to the fact that illegal immigration costs California
taxpayers billions of dollars a year in services, the Senate
Transportation Committee in Sacramento passed AB 60 this April 1, which
would grant driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. This bill will be
heard before the Assembly Appropriation Committee on Wednesday. If
passed, AB 60 would undoubtedly encourage higher illegal immigration.
Shouldn't Sacramento adopt a resolution urging Congress to deport the
estimated 2 million illegal immigrants in California, which would free
up jobs for unemployed low-skilled Americans, and reduce the number of
drivers on our freeways and students in our schools?
Advocates for driver's licenses for illegal migrants argue that illegal
immigrants will continue to drive anyway and that AB 60 would better
protect the safety of California drivers.
Are they saying that we should give our house keys to burglars since
they will trespass anyway and we would not want them to break our
expensive windows?
Legislators should be reminded that the September 11 attacks happened in
part because U.S. immigration laws were not enforced. Some of the 9-11
perpetrators who were in the U.S. illegally used American driver's
licenses to open bank accounts and to circulate freely by air and by
car. In addition, as most states are bankrupt and their infrastructures
extremely overburdened, it is not realistic to expect that thorough
background checks of illegal immigrants will be performed.
Thousands of Americans have already lost their lives and tens of
billions of tax dollars have been spent because of homeland insecurity.
But eliminating Saddam Hussein or continuing our crusade against
countries suspected of possessing weapons of mass destruction alone will
not free the United States from terrorist attacks as long as our borders
remain porous and our law enforcement agencies absolutely overwhelmed.
If the U.S. continues to allow 800,000 illegal immigrants and large
quantities of drugs to be smuggled into this country, why not terrorists
or anthrax?
Recently, U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Arizona, warned: "It's hard to imagine
terrorists not trying to come in through this southern border." How many
more innocent Americans should die and how many more tens of billions of
dollars should we spend in window-dressing homeland security measures
before the American leadership seriously implements a comprehensive plan
to effectively stop terrorism?
The costs of porous borders extend beyond our national security.
American taxpayers nationwide spend $1.5 billion a year just
incarcerating illegal aliens who committed crimes. Hospitals in many
states are on the verge of bankruptcy due to emergency health care
provided to illegal migrants. Educating illegal students also costs
billions of dollars annually. Is it responsible to cut programs and
services which adversely impact existing legal immigrants and U.S-born
Americans while we continue to pay for the high cost of services for
illegal immigrants?
Assuming that illegal immigrants pay taxes, the little fiscal revenue
they generate is not enough even to offset the cost of educating their
children, which averages $6,000 a year, let alone pay for their share of
other infrastructure.
Illegal immigrant families also pollute, use water and need housing,
just like all native-born Americans. Can the most populous state afford
more people to put additional pressure on its environment, budgets and
infrastructure?
Gen. Tommy Franks, U.S. commander of the war in Iraq, recently stated,
"Any nation that wants to control its borders can do so." Elected
officials in Sacramento should start by opposing AB 60 and all other
benefits for people who are here illegally. Drastic immigration
reduction will not solve all America's ills, but is the necessary first
step if our leaders are serious about realistically dealing with our
concerns.

Speaking of a "wacky image", the specter of a nation (Mexico) who
claims
to be looking for and demanding respect who promotes the disrespect and
violation of our borders is more than disingenuous. And the continual
whining and demands for benefits and advantages for Mexicans is
anti-American and the purest form of racism and is conclusive evidence
of the great need to limit immigation in our own sovereign interests and
preservation of America.
Pimentel's solution of granting amnesty to the millions of llegals here
now and then leaving the borders porous in addition to an unlimited
guest worker program with no mention of a return provision is beyond
arrogant and amounts to open borders and is an insult to every American
and of the rule of law. Such a foolish course of action would directly
lead to the radicals desire of Aztlan which seems to be the goal of many
Latinos. California is already approaching that as the book
"Mexifornia" by Victor Davis Hanson describes. This book is reviewed

of the United States against the illegal entry of aliens and shall, in
his discretion, appoint for that purpose such number of employees of the
Service as to him shall appear necessary and proper.

PHOENIX -- More than a year before it may appear on Arizona's next
general election ballot, a proposed initiative purportedly aimed at
illegal immigration already has political debate simmering.
On Tuesday, supporters and critics of the proposal held dueling news
conferences in adjacent hearing rooms in the House of Representatives
Building. Each news conference was punctuated by cheering, booing and
heckling, while speakers also offered accusations and denials that
racism is a motivation for the proposal.
The initiative would impose new requirements to produce evidence of
citizenship to register to vote, cast ballots at polling places and
obtain government services which are not mandated by the federal
government. Supporters formally launched their initiative campaign
Monday. They need to collect 122,612 signatures of registered voters by
July 1, 2004, to qualify the measure for the November 2004 general
election ballot.
Supporters said their proposal was a commonsense attempt to protect
citizens from the unbridled fiscal and social costs of illegal
immigration. "They come here and they're a burden on society," said
state Rep. Russell Pearce, a Mesa Republican and a senior adviser to
Protect Arizona NOW. "We know it's expensive. People that deny that
have an agenda."
Opponents argued the proposal is really aimed at keeping Hispanics from
voting by erecting procedural barriers, and one suggested that at least
one fellow lawmaker on the other side of the issue was motivated by
race.
"What drives them is race," said Rep. Ben Miranda, D-Phoenix. "So
to
call (Rep.) Randy Graf--and I wish he were here" a racist or an
uneducated fool is perfectly on the dot."
Graf, a Green Valley Republican serving as a senior adviser to the
initiative campaign, later said he was disappointed by Miranda's
comments.
"That's a shame because we don't need to take personalities into this,"
Graf said. "We're ready for an open, honest debate."
Other critics used milder language than Miranda but put the debate in
the same terms.
"This is an attack to minority groups -- to Latinos, to the black
community," said Rep. Amanda Aguirre, D-Yuma. "We cannot allow this
to happen."
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good people do
nothing.

"THE CREATION OF THE GREATEST GENERATION NOT BY CHANCE" By Barbara
Vickroy and Frosty Wooldridge
"The specific object of this volume is to help Americanize the youth of
this country, whether of native or of foreign birth." This is the
opening paragraph of the preface to a textbook used throughout the
nation in the early 1900's: AMERICAN PATRIOTISM IN PROSE AND VERSE.
This textbook and others were among the ways that our great grandparents
dealt with what was called "The Great Wave" of immigration. In the
late
1800's and early 1920's millions of immigrants gazed in awe at Lady
Liberty and were processed through Ellis Island. Since many of these
immigrants were not educated in academics or the basic civics in a free
democracy, two coping mechanisms shifted into motion by far-thinking
men.
They heeded Teddy Roosevelt's wisdom: "The one absolutely certain way of
bringing this nation to ruin, or preventing all possibility of its
continuing as a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle
of squabbling nationalities."
First, our nation's leaders took a pragmatic assessment of how many such
newcomers we could absorb without damaging our own economic and civic
culture. They placed a cap on the number of immigrants. After 1930, the
numbers steadily decreased to a low of 100,000 to an average of 178,000
up to 1965. This allowed assimilation into the American Dream. The
English language was taught as the cohesive glue to hold all immigrants
together.
Second, leading educators of the day, fully understood the delicate
language/cultural/civic balance essential to a Democracy. They devised a
curriculum to "Americanize" the newcomers and their children. Those
children went on to become known as "The Greatest Generation." Again
from that textbook: "The child is the future adult citizen. Education is
the living spring of his character. If democracy is to endure,
democratic ideals must be woven into the very texture of the thoughts,
the feelings, and the life of the individual: for "character is
destiny."
It's impossible to overemphasize the importance of education in either
global competition or in cultural cohesion. Equally inescapable is the
fact that the sheer number of students immigrating into America in 2003
is steadily overwhelming our national education system. In his book,
IMMIGRATION AND EDUCATION: THE CRISIS AND OPPORTUNITIES, Author David
Stewart delineates on our own most challenged students: "The level of
immigration is so massive, it's choking urban schools."
California demonstrates what awaits other states, as these
immigration-driven numbers increase. Over 2 million of California's 6
million students are housed in trailers, many more millions are in
overcrowded, undertaught, textbook starved classrooms. Another 2 million
are in 'English as a Second Language' classes. Science and math
instruction often must take a back seat to teaching English. No surprise
that the state trails the nation in academic outcomes.
A final quote: "It is possible that we have proceeded too long on the
basis that American democracy is imperishable and will somehow take care
of itself. This is not a safe conception." Our great grandparents met
the challenge of their wave's numbers at a time when our nation was
still largely unsettled, high school graduation was rare, and
labor-intensive careers could absorb those with little or no education.
They met that challenge by cutting the number of immigrants.
How will we meet the challenges? Why do our leaders insist on piling
millions upon millions of immigrants, decade after decade--with more
resemblance to a glutton's pastry shop orgy than to thoughtful planning?
Their sheer numbers and complex needs make them indigestible. What are
we trying to prove?
At what point will we be unable to deal with these high numbers? Current
immigration numbers of 2.3 million immigrants per year, legal, illegal
and their offspring, have added over 70 million in the past 38
years--swelling US population from 200 million to 288 million. Every
corner of American society vibrates with unease. In short, we face the
21st Century with a vast population whose skills belong to past
centuries. Even more disconcerting is the fact that over 400 million
worldwide want to move to America, and our national leaders seem willing
for that to happen.
The most serious consequence by far, to our posterity and us, is found
in the requirements inherent in our form of government. Democracy
requires an educated populace with a similar moral and ethical
foundation--speaking the same language. As immigration's numbers spiral
to unmanageable numbers, we are losing the cultural cohesion essential
to a healthy democracy.
Our country stands at a critical juncture. We, as a nation, either
decide our citizens and way of life are worth maintaining or we may
spiral into the quagmire described by Roosevelt-- "a tangle of
squabbling nationalities." In his time, he never considered accelerating

in Spanish and including all academic subjects, teach that America

Mexican national pride, guarantees a set to every Mexican child, and
makes it a crime for anyone to sell them.
The only reason we learned about this Mexican plan is that one school
in Santa Ana, California, decided to sell the books at a book fair and
the local Hispanics kicked up a fuss about it. The school apologized to
the Hispanics for selling the books, but should have apologized to the
students for accepting the books in the first place. The question we
should ask our Mexican immigrant friends is, are you assimilating or
invading? "

A June 13, 1945 Portland, Oregonian article headline said: Buy an apple and help feed our Congressmen. It seems blind Dan Mahoney of Portland was selling apples to keep the wolf from biting underpaid Congressmen whose salaries were $10,000 but there was talk about raising it to at least $15,000. By today's six figure salaries, these amounts seem like small potatoes but in 1945, $10,000 was a lot of money. Inflation had not yet kicked into high gear caused by our government printing money without gold backing so prices were low and many annual family incomes were less than what it costs to put braces on a kid's teeth today and mothers weren't having to work. A year in a state college cost less than $1,000.
Today, while Americans are writing bad checks, depleting savings accounts, borrowing all they can from relatives or friends, reaching the maximum limit on credit cards or home equity loans, homes are being repossessed and bankruptcies have been hitting record highs, retired members of Congress are collecting big pensions and perks over their lifetimes so the 1945 apple sales must have paid off. Mark Twain has allegedly said that fleas can be taught nearly everything a Congressman can. Time and time again, this Capitol Hills Royalty has given up its most important authorized power to the president and the United Nations rather than risk losing elections.
Oregon's own infamous Senator Bob Packwood (R-Oregon) said in 1979 that Congress had given wider powers to the President because then "if the President acts unwisely, Congress can be rid of the responsibility for making decisions which might make people mad and members of Congress are not accepting the responsibilities of leadership because they fear public disfavor."
Prior to sending our young men and women to Iraq II, we saw ample evidence that is still the case today. Because it is impossible to please all people at all times, why don't these mugwumps simply obey their constitutional oaths and forget about "public disfavor"? A mugwump is one who has his mug on one side of the fence while his wump is on the other so they speak in vague terms and itch the ears of any audience they address and the media pundits protect them by not asking prying questions.
The government body most representative of the American citizens is the one that has been most easily subverted. Milton William Cooper in his 1991 book: BEHOLD A PALE HORSE said through PACs, payoffs, pork-barrel politics, professional politicians, congressmen who are members of secret societies and through greed and fear, our representatives and senators quit representing us long ago.
A speech delivered on March 17, 1993 by Rep. James G. Traficant (D-Ohio) and made a part of the Congressional Record said that the U.S. is in Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. He said, "Members of Congress are official trustees presiding over the greatest reorganization of any bankrupt entity in world history, the U.S. government... It is an established fact that the United States Federal Government has been dissolved by the Emergency Banking Act, March 9, 1933, 48 Stat. 1, Public Law 89-719; declared by President Roosevelt, being bankrupt and insolvent H.J.R. 192, 73rd Congress session of June 5, 1933...
The United States Federal Government exists today in name only." He stated "The receivers of the United States bankruptcy are the International Bankers, via the United Nations, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. All United States offices, officials and departments are now operating within a de facto status in name only under Emergency War Powers. With the constitutional Republican form of government now dissolved, the receivers of the bankruptcy have adopted a new form of government for the United States. This new government is known as a Democracy, being an established Socialist/Communist order..."
Journalist Tom Anderson in STRAIGHT TALK (Sept. 1989) said that Congressmen and senators are like a bunch of bananas. They come in green and clean. Gradually they turn yellow with dark spots. Finally, they get soft inside, their skins get slippery and they begin to stink but Congressman Traficant was a rare breed indeed. Because he was an outspoken thorn in the side of the powers that be, he was later framed, sent to 7 1/4 years in jail all the while the media portrayed him as a Forest Gump variety. Should we be surprised that Traficant stood alone?
Publisher Doug Thompson (Capitol Hill Blue) said a few years ago that 117 Congress people had run two or more businesses that went bankrupt, 71 had such bad credit they couldn't get AXP cards; 53 had personal and financial problems so severe they would be denied security clearances; 29 had been accused of spousal abuse, 14 had drug arrests, eight were shoplifters and even Teddy had left a trail of unpaid debts from past campaigns. It seems inconceivable that a nation of millions cannot replace the irresponsible elected officials, who check their spines at the Capitol door, but if voting isn't rigged, as I suspect it might very well be, then why do we keep re-electing these incompetent buffoons?
Former presidential candidate, Pat Buchanan has said Capitol Hill is a swamp that ought to be drained regardless of the exotic wildlife we have permitted to flourish there, Half of Congress is more socialist than self-proclaimed socialist Bernard Sanders from Vermont.
In 1998 Sanders had a constitutional cumulative 33% score for the 105th Congress and was more conservative than that of more than 196 of his colleagues - 20 R's and 176 D's.

It is impossible for Congress to oversee all the agencies it has created that causes Americans to be guilty of breaking many laws before they get up each morning. Congress is fully responsible for the national mess and the inevitable forthcoming collapse and resulting chaos. The Plunge Protection Team can only put Band-Aids on the stock market to boost it back up and give the illusion that everything is OK but when the bubble finally bursts, the Plunge Protection Team is likely to be overwhelmed and run for cover.
The Senate passed Bush's $350 billion tax cut in the middle of May. The end of May, President Bush quietly signed a bill raising once again the debt ceiling. We're seeing deflation for the first time since the 1930s. The only area where any inflation still exists is in health insurance and energy costs. The majority of the members of the House and the Senate seldom read the bills they vote on, leaving that chore to their aides.
Ed Rollins, a former GOP consultant and manager of Ronald Reagan's 1984 re-election campaign and later campaign manager for Ross Perot and author of his 1996 Bare Knuckles and Back Rooms (P. 62) confirms this fact when he says there are few Congress people on the floor during debates but when it comes time to vote, the bells and whistles go off everywhere and a great procession of members march in from their offices, the gym or the cloakrooms and as they file in, party whips tell them how to vote and for those who were sleeping, someone would vote for them And then a 6/5/2003 news article said an independent, bipartisan commission wants to change the Constitution to ensure that Congress can be reconstituted quickly if lawmakers are killed in a catastrophic attack such as those of Sept. 11. What a joke? Haven't we already determined how obsolete they are?
After the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was passed Ross Perot called it the "giant sucking sound" of jobs going to Mexico and while NAFTA, which was fully supported by the GOP and its mouthpiece, Rush Limbaugh, has done great damage to our economy, another giant sucking sound began evolving in Washington, D.C. way back in 1933! One of our Founding Fathers said, "We've given you a Republic. We hope you can keep it..."
