| Rick Stanley, a
Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate, was convicted
Thursday of illegally carrying a gun in Denver's Civic
Center. Stanley's arrest was the result of an act of civil disobedience during which he sported a semi-automatic weapon in a holster around his waist at a December rally commemorating the 210th anniversary of the Bill of Rights. After a two-day trial, a Denver County Court jury found the hardware supply company owner guilty of the misdemeanor on Thursday. Sentencing is set for July 25. Stanley could face up to a year in county jail and a fine up to $999. Colorado's Libertarian convention is scheduled for this weekend, during which Stanley expects to snag the party's nomination for U.S. Senate. He said his court case has been met with mixed response from party members, many of whom put gun rights at the top of their agenda. |
