Read the information below and then decide for yourself...
Comparisons of the Howell for Governor, Cloud for Senate,
Thompson for Governor & Stanley for Senate Libertarian campaigns.

Information compiled on May 11-12, 2002

Race #1 - Carla Howell, Libertarian for Massachusetts Governor running against Republican Incumbent and Democratic Challenger

Background Information: Carla Howell ran the most successful Libertarian campaign for U.S. Senate in the LP's History in the year 2000. Running against the infamous Senator Ted Kennedy and a "Party's worst nightmare" Republican she captured 12% of the vote for a total of 308,860 individual votes.

Campaign Costs: Howell's total expenditures for the 2000 MA Senate race was $1,023,844.00 setting her campaign's cost at $3.32/vote.

Past Performance: Howell received 12% of the vote in the last statewide race she ran for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts against Senator Ted Kennedy (D). The Republican opponent was a "disaster from the day he announced".

Other race information: Massachusetts Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Mitt Romney just made People Magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People list. (Reported by Orvetti.com on May 2, 2002)

Poll Results:
Boston Herald Gubernatorial Poll Results
May 6, 2002 -
The Orvetti Report
Mitt Romney (R) 46%
Shannon O'Brien (D) 35%
Carla Howell (L) 1%

Race #2 - Michael Cloud for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts running against Democratic 2004 Presidential hopeful Sen. John Kerry (D)

Background Information: Michael Cloud has some name recognition in Massachusetts, and within the LP most recently, for being the CEO of Carla Howell's Senate campaign against Sen. Kennedy in 2000. As well as being Harry Browne's primary Fundraising spokesperson during the 2000 Presidential Campaign.

Campaign Costs: So far in this election the Cloud campaign has spent: $83,517.87. There are no figures available to do a cost per vote at this time.

Past Performance: Michael Cloud received 2% of the vote in his last statewide campaign in Nevada 1998.

Media Reports: Council for a Livable World ( http://www.clw.org ) reports on the 2002 MA Senate race as follows:

"Republicans have no hope of recruiting a top-tier challenger to defeat three-term Democratic Sen. John Kerry. Businessman Jack E. Robinson was the party's nominee in 2000 against Sen. Ted Kennedy and was a disaster from the day he announced. Much to the GOP's horror, Robinson made some noises about running against Kerry, but seems to have backed away.

Kerry, who is busy gearing up for a 2004 presidential bid, will cruise to a fourth term. Political odds: Kerry heavily favored."

Polls: I found no polls listing Michael Cloud for the Massachusetts U.S. Senate Race.

Predictions: The Orvetti Report stated that Cloud was heavily favored to win the nomination for the Libertarian Party of Massachusetts.

Other race information:The Orvetti Report noted on May 8, 2002 that the Republican candidate Anthony Kandel may not be able to collect enough signatures to get on the ballot in November.

Race #3 - Ed Thompson for Wisconsin Governor

Background Information: Ed is the brother of former 4-term Governor, 20-year legislator, now- U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson. Current Governor Scott McCallum is at the top of the Democratic Party's vulnerable list.

Poll: As reported in The Orvetti Report ( http://www.orvetti.com )
Wisconsin Libertarian Gubernatorial candidate Ed Thompson at 10% in some recent polls, addressed the National Press Club the week of May 6, 2002.

Campaign Costs: There are no FEC reports available for Ed Thompson's campaign at this time.

Previous Performance: No data available

Other Campaign Information: Currently the LP's top choice for a "win" in November.

Race #4 - Rick Stanley for U.S. Senate 2002 in Colorado

Background Information: Rick has never run for office before. He is the successful owner of Stanley Fasteners and Shop Supply in Denver, CO.

Media Coverage: Rick has received more media coverage in Colorado than any candidate ever before including Presidential Candidates. Rick has been reported on over 100 times by news media, both nationally and throughout the state of Colorado in the past 11 months.

Rick Stanley is receiving Nationwide Coverage, showing up in polls and predictions, and in the news media. Never before has this been seen by a Libertarian Candidate for U.S. Senate -- especially so early.

Poll:
March 27, 2002

Garin-Hart-Yang 2002 Colorado U.S. Senate race poll
(as published in
The Orvetti Report)
Allard (R) 43%
Strickland (D) 37%
Stanley (L) 4%
With 1.5 million probably voters this November 1% of the vote for the State of Colorado equals roughly 15,000 votes. This means that Rick Stanley has already gathered roughly 60,000 votes. Stanley has only spent roughly $9,000 dollars so far in this race, currently putting campaign costs at approximately 15 cents per vote!

Other race information: Senator Wayne Allard is vulnerable. His re-election poll figures are abyssmal: When voters were asked, "Do you think Senator Wayne Allard should be re-elected?",
the results are as follows:
Yes - 33%
Time for a change - 32%
No Preference - 25%
Don't Know - 10%

Colorado is seen as a microcosm for the rest of the nation on the issue of guns. How well do the major party candidates represent the strong views of Colorado's gun owners?

Sen. Allard has not honored his oath of office to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States by voting for numerous laws which are Unconstitutional. Allard also changed his tune on guns when he went to Washington 6 years ago. When he was in Colorado he asked for the repeal of gun laws. After arriving in D.C. Allard began to vote for MORE gun laws that violate the Second Amendment.
See Open letter to Sen. Wayne Allard from L. Neil Smith - click here

Tom Strickland is vulnerable. He is a million-dollar a year Lawyer-Lobbyist. He has historically supported Gun Control measures, which he is now careful to call Gun "Safety" measures. For years during his job as U.S. Attorney, Coloradans have heard Strickland say "we need more gun control". Thomas Strickland created Project Exile. Now he is saying, "OK, let's enforce the laws we already have...".

If Strickland truly means what he says then he must support his buddy Denver Mayor Wellington Webb's law -- right? Mayor Webb has suspended both the U.S. and State of Colorado Constitutions in Denver for all resident gun owners, and those residents who would wish to purchase a gun and legally bring it home, or carry it on their person.

If Strickland supports this law, then he is helping violent criminals by assuring them that within the city and county of Denver, their respectful law-abiding victims will be unarmed. Strickland is definitely not someone who will support and defend the Constitution or The Bill of Rights -- in fact, he thinks it's OK to ignore them! That means he won't stick up for your rights!
