God's
Law or Man's - What To Do?
While following the
law of the land is appropriate, what are we to do when the civil law
goes against those laws of God? Christians might be well advised to
look at the book they profess to follow. the Bible. Wasn't it Daniel
that rose to the number two position of authority in the government,
only answering to King Darius? Knowing that Daniel believed in God's
law, Daniel's enemies devised a plan to get rid of him. They got King
Darius to decree that anyone bowing or worshiping a God other than the
king should be put to death.
Despite this decree, Daniel went on praying and honoring God as he
always did. Despite the Kings feelings towards Daniel, he honored the
decree and had Daniel cast into the lions den and the rest is as they
say, History. Yes, we as citizens should obey civil authority up and
until the time that civil authority rejects the God whom we derive our
rights from. Then the true test begins, will we be governed by man or
by God? If we fail to stand up for the God whom gave us our rights, we
are subject to losing those rights as entire civilizations
have in the past.
In 1789 congress passed one of their first acts which was the Judiciary
Act requiring all federal judges to take their oath of office which
ended with "so help me God." We are seeing a battle to eliminate God
from the public forum. The ACLU has a mandate to eliminate God and
religion, thus embracing atheism. As a result, we see that when life
isn't defined as a gift from God, it then begins when government or
judges says it does.
Thomas Jefferson said, "Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure
when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds
of the people that these liberties are the gift of God."
The founding Fathers certainly wanted the state to stay out of the
affairs of religion, that is one reason they left Europe, to worship as
they saw fit. But just as badly as they wanted government to stay out
of the affairs of religion, they wanted government to acknowledge and
certainly remember, the God under which our Nation was founded.
Because of this obvious wish, we have congress and the Supreme Court
open with a non-denominational prayer. We have the ten commandments
posted in the Supreme Court and many other state and federal places.
Elected officials place their hand on the bible upon swearing in and
many additional instances that were built-in by our Founding Fathers to
assure we remember where these right came
from.
Judge Moore is condemned for following the constitution. Worse, he is
condemned by those that claim to follow God, but put their faith in
kings and judges. Lest we forget, the courts have absolutely no
constitutional, or any other right to issue laws, they can only suggest
or judge the constitutionality of current laws passed by our elected
leaders. Where is the law that was passed by any house, state or
national outlawing the 10 commandments? That's right, there is none.
Once again, the congress has washed it's hands of any controversy and
allowed judges to run the asylum.
If only more Americans had the convictions of Judge Moore. But then
again, that involves being more than a couch Christian, it involves
standing up and being counted as Daniel, Paul and others did in the
face of persecution and even death.
