Libertarian Victors
From The Colorado Springs
Gazette - Monday, May 20, 2002
| U.S. Senate candidate
Rick Stanley and gubernatorial hopeful Ralph Shnelvar won
the Libertarian Party's nominations for those offices
last weekend. Stanley, a Denver small-business owner, trailed Colorado Springs computer programmer Steve D'Ippolito on the first ballot. But he came back to get the nomination on the second vote, state party public information director Kent McNaughton said. Shnelvar, a Boulder small-business owner, overwhelmingly defeated Littleton consultant James Vance, receiving 92 delegate votes to Vance's 41. Stanley and Vance allied themselves with members of the party who think the best way to get their message out is with in-your-face tactics. Shnelvar and D'Ippolito said they thought more traditional campaigning would suit Libertarians better. Springs home-educator Desiree Hickson will be the lieutenant governor candidate on Shnelvar's ticket. |
