Desecration
of the U.S. Flag
by Rick Stanley
On
Friday, November 9, 2001, Rick Stanley sent this response to the
Citizens Flag Alliance, which had sent the campaign a
questionnaire about
a proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution just two days
previously.
POSITION STATEMENT: I would support the CFA's call for an amendment to the Constitution that states: "The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States." The people have the right to protect their flag if they so choose. I believe an amendment to the Constitution is the right way to go about it. However, until the people of the United States insist upon the Constitution being upheld by the elected members of Congress, the Senate, and the Executive Branch, including the President, it's a moot point. Allowing federal officials to violate their oaths of office -- their promises to uphold the Constitution -- is far worse than watching a symbol burn. This sitting government is turning our country into a police state by passing laws that violate the Constitution. I believe the citizens of the United States who live in America are in grave danger of being denied their rights -- the very rights that have made our country the best and brightest hope for the world for over 200 years. Many of our rights have already been stolen; and abuses have been visited upon U.S. citizens, and on other people across the world, at the hands of government agents acting in the name of the United States. We have a good system of government, but it needs to perform only its lawful functions, and to be bound once again by the restraints of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I feel it is every U.S. citizen's duty to protect and defend these important documents, and to ensure that their dictates are followed. There are those currently in power, officials in the U.S. government, who would ignore the Constitution's demands for restraint, for fair and just legislation, for the strict division and limited scope of governmental powers. I feel it is every American's duty to elect and support those who take their oaths to protect and defend the Constitution seriously, and who will stand by their promises. I will defend the Constitution whether elected to the U.S. Senate or not, and if elected I will crusade for the repeal of all the unconstitutional laws passed by a corrupted government the last 150 years. I support a Second American Revolution, to rid the American people of an unconstitutional government with ballots, not bullets. For more information, see my web site at http://www.stanley2002.org.
